Maritim Equity - Dr. Albrecht Gundermann to join the management

At the beginning of December 2007, Dr. Albrecht Gundermann will be joining Dr. Werner Großekämper as managing director of the Hamburg-based fund initiator Maritim Equity Beteiligungsgesellschaft mbH & Co. KG (Maritim Equity). The strong demand for the Maritim Equity I fund confirms the interest in innovative new investment products in the shipping segment. “We have received consistently very favorable reactions to the new finance model from both retail partners and shipping companies. In the wake of the current subprime crisis in particular, demand for non-bank capital is rising at an immense rate,” explains Dr. Werner Großekämper, managing director of Maritim Equity. “For this reason, we expect massive demand for our funds in 2008 – on both the financing and the distribution side.”
As part of its plans to strengthen its business, the young issuing company has additionally secured the services of Dr. Albrecht Gundermann, who has many years of experience in ship finance. Prior to joining the company, he was managing director of LISCR Deutschland GmbH (Liberian International Ship & Corporate Registry), before which he spent several years as director of global shipping at Commerzbank AG. Among other things, he was also the personal assistant of the prime minister of Saxony, Professor Biedenkopf. “We have gained in Dr. Gundermann a managing director with excellent connections and many years of experience in ship finance,” says Großekämper.
The Maritim Equity funds provide small and mid-size shipping companies with an innovative alternative form of finance, in which they remain the co-owner of the financed ship with an equity holding of 25 to 75 percent. In this way, the shipping company and the investors have a joint vested interest in the ship’s performance.
